SEANep’s core mission is to uphold and reinforce technical standards, champion disaster-resilient and sustainable design, and influence national infrastructure policies through professional leadership. It plays a pivotal role in promoting design and construction that adhere to Nepal’s national building codes, thereby enhancing construction quality and safety across the country. The association fosters innovation and capacity building within the engineering community by facilitating knowledge dissemination, skill enhancement, and collaboration among professionals.
A significant aspect of SEANep’s work is its involvement in policy advocacy and code development. It contributes expert inputs to revision and updating of Nepal National Building Codes. Recently, SEANep contributed in reviewing the draft of NBC 105:2024, a code for the seismic design of building in Nepal. SEANep also provides vital post-disaster assessments to guide resilient rebuilding efforts, especially following earthquakes and other disaster events.
The association celebrates its institutional milestones through regular events, including leadership elections and forums promoting inclusivity, highlighting female participation in engineering leadership. It also recognises member achievements by facilitating appointments to key government and professional positions, reinforcing SEANep’s stature as a national thought leader.
Looking ahead, SEANep’s strategic vision focuses on expanding its national and international presence, seeking global accreditation through frameworks like the Washington Accord and Chartered Professional Engineer systems. By embracing innovation, digital transformation, and inclusive leadership, SEANep aims to elevate Nepal’s structural engineering sector to meet future societal and infrastructure demands with excellence.
